Community Medicine

Community context is fundamental to our patient care mission. Our program places residents in a wide range of clinical settings all beyond San Antonio – with special emphasis on serving those areas that are underserved. All residents participate in a Community Oriented Primary Care program. This curricular surface area is scheduled both in longitudinal and cake experiences during the iii years of residency. Many of our residents have had their work accepted for publication, and they have a large number of works in progress. Several residents have presented piece of work at national and regional meetings. Kinesthesia members work with residents to develop the clinical inquiry skills demand to flourish in the rapidly changing medical industry.

Welcome to Due south Texas' premier Family and Customs Medicine Residency. Founded in 1972, our program focuses on comprehensive family unit-oriented care for the underserved population of San Antonio and surrounding counties.

Our program is designed to emphasize the continuity that family physicians enjoy in their 24-hour interval-to-mean solar day do. Patients visit our land-of-the-art Family Health Center for outpatient medical and preventive care. When hospitalization or higher-level intendance is required, our patients are directly admitted to The Family Medicine Inpatient Service at University Infirmary, San Antonio's all-time-ranked infirmary.

As part of UT Health San Antonio, our program also has directly access to the in-depth expertise and rich resources of the university setting. This allows for close collaboration with other specialties and interdisciplinary experiences that enhance education. The residency programme as well enjoys longstanding links to university research and policy units. Our programme emphasizes the teaching of our residents by highly skilled and experienced family medicine physicians. We are fully accredited past the ACGME and currently take xv PGY1 residents, 15 PGY2 residents and 15 PGY3 residents.

Residents are trained to care for patients in all phases of life.

Our grooming sites focus on caring for an urban, underserved population, just our residents are prepared to be successful in a diverseness of practice settings.

Our residency preparation emphasizes:

• Continuity practice in convalescent setting—First year residents average over 2 one-half-days per week in the Family Health Center.
• Communication skills—Verbal and written communication skills are the cornerstone of quality patient-centered medical intendance.
• Family unit Physicians trained by Family Physicians—70% of the curriculum is taught by Family Medicine Faculty.

Central to our mission is the importance of the family unit and the customs in the context of patient care.
